Description

International conflicts create challenges for even the most peaceful populations. The never-ending stream of information on the digital interface and through word of mouth can feel overwhelming and disrupt relationships within families, social circles, work colleagues, neighbours, communities, provinces, states and countries. Existing conflict resolution mechanisms tend not to address the complexity of this disruption in a way that includes each person’s subjective experience and thus do not provide practical solutions for many of us.

At Moose Anger Management and Healing Anger, we provide the resources people need to address the emotional overwhelm caused by international conflicts. Left unchecked, this can lead to a spiral of hopelessness, anger, depression, apathy, rage, and disconnection. If not resolved, these natural emotional expressions can transform into hate, extremism, and polarisation, leading to a tragic loss for everyone. Disconnection from our hearts and each other is the inevitable result of this destructive path.

  • In the midst of international conflicts, how can we find inner peace?
  • How can resilience counteract polarization, hatred and extremism to prevent the physical and psychological conditions that prolonged internalized anger can cause in our bodies?
  • How can those who deeply feel concern, compassion and empathy for what is going on do something constructive and healing instead of feeling hopeless or enraged?
  • How can we stop the ripple of generational trauma by taking charge of our own responses?

It’s been proven that addressing family and community conflicts through our subjective bodies/psyche can substantially relieve the traumas originated by war, social conflict, and the resulting hatred. Polarization doesn’t just happen in war; it also occurs in people’s homes and hearts. Emotional regulation, conflict resolution, emotional literacy, and a deep understanding of how to mitigate hate and maintain dialogue and a healthy, even healing perspective are critical for maintaining emotional, physical and spiritual health.

We are angry because we care. But too much anger shuts down the body’s healing abilities. When so many of us have family or friends involved in international conflicts, how can we contribute to the healing processes when this affects us and leads us to suffer in different but profound ways?

Moose Anger Management and Healing Anger is a Vancouver-based organization with 29 years of experience dealing with anger and intergenerational trauma. Anger can move us to act in connection with our heart and intelligence. Anger can also overcome the heartless, survivalist part of our being. Anger is an honourable and core emotion we all experience. How can we harness this emotion for growth when peace seems impossible to maintain? Is there something such as healthy anger?

Through our group offering: “Inner Peace in Times of War,” our organization explores and supports the role of everyday people [both men and women] impacted by global conflicts in three pivotal ways:

  • By building emotional and intellectual capacity as peacebuilders and leaders in challenging situations,
  • Assisting people to clarify what we can do and what is out of our control by understanding our physiology and what happens in our bodies, including self-awareness practices and understanding challenging emotions (toxic shame, righteous anger, despair, etc.)
  • Creating the potential for people to become better prepared to address complex external conflicts by promoting the resolution of complex inner conflicts.
